Public Sector
Hotspots
In Queensland, a number of large infrastructure projects are underway, creating a need for development assessment planners, water and environmental engineers, 12D drafters, and candidates with civil design and drafting skills.
In many states, and particularly in Victoria, the strong environmental sustainability push continues within the public sector, and facilities and project staff with knowledge and experience in this area are therefore highly sought after.
Statutory and strategic planners and civil engineers continue to be in demand, particularly within housing authorities and local councils. With a recent injection of significant funding, this has seen local government temporary recruitment become a major hotspot.
Traffic engineers, planners, and employer side project managers with a trade or architectural background and experience in a government setting continue to be a priority.
Candidate trends
There has been a greater movement of candidates from the private to the public sector, and the greater job security on offer has become a key selling point.
