Hays are partnered with a large state government department in order to source a highly experienced WHS Consultant to direct a team on safety processes for a large project SOR.
Your new role
We are seeking an experienced Work Health & Safety (WHS) Consultant to support the program during its Definition Phase as it prepares to transition into major infrastructure delivery.
This part-time consultancy role will provide expert WHS advice, conduct targeted risk and gap analysis, and help define the WHS foundations required for the Delivery Phase. The role is critical in ensuring current decisions do not introduce future safety or compliance risks.
You will work closely with technical teams and governance stakeholders, providing practical, legislation‑aligned advice and help to shape the project's future WHS approach.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Program Governance and Office Management team, your responsibilities will include:
- Provide expert WHS advice to support office-based work and site visits
- Review and update the Site Visit Safety Management Procedure as required
- Coordinate and deliver WHS and site visit training
- Provide WHS input into project planning, design considerations and procurement readiness
- Review existing WHS documentation, policies and Definition Phase materials, identifying legislative, regulatory and standards requirements for delivery.
- Engage with technical leads to identify risks, gaps and future WHS needs
- Finalise a WHS gap analysis including definition phase risks and delivery prerequisites
- Develop a prioritised WHS roadmap to support transition into delivery.
- Identify regulatory and legislative triggers for delivery commencement.
- Provide strategic advice on integration with assurance, risk, commercial and governance frameworks
What you'll need to succeed
You will bring strong WHS technical capability and experience working in large infrastructure or government environments.
Essential requirements include:
- A relevant qualification in WHS/OHS
- Strong knowledge of the WA WHS Act 2020, Regulations and Codes of Practice
- Demonstrated experience in WHS systems, audits, gap analysis and contractor safety
Desirable
- Risk Management training (ISO 31000)
- Safety in Design (SiD) experience
- Experience supporting infrastructure programs transitioning into delivery
