Your new role
Reporting to the WHS Manager, the WHS Advisor will provide professional, practical and responsive work health and safety support across the organisation. This is a hands-on role suited to an advisor who enjoys partnering with stakeholders, improving systems and influencing meaningful safety outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will deliver a comprehensive Work Health and Safety service, including:
- Supporting the development, implementation, review and continuous improvement of WHS policies, procedures, manuals and annual WHS Management Plans
- Providing expert advice, guidance and coaching to line managers and staff to ensure compliance with WHS legislation, Aged Care Quality Standards and organisational requirements
- Coordinating hazard, incident and near-miss reporting systems, including investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions and maintenance of WHS compliance registers
- Conducting risk assessments, site audits and inspections, and providing practical recommendations to mitigate physical and psychological health risks
- Maintaining WHS-related data, registers and statistics, conducting trend analysis and preparing reports for internal stakeholders
- Participating in regular audits and monitoring site performance to identify areas of risk and opportunities for improvement
- Coordinating and supporting emergency management processes, including emergency preparedness and warden systems
- Facilitating WHS consultation and communication processes, including WHS committees and WHS representative systems
- Coaching, mentoring and supporting managers, supervisors and WHS representatives to improve safety performance and loss control outcomes
- Promoting a positive safety culture through WHS education, health promotion initiatives, inductions and workshops
- Supporting WHS training needs analysis in collaboration with training services and maintaining up-to-date legislative and industry knowledge
- Assisting with injury management, workers’ compensation and return-to-work processes, including monitoring claims, outcomes and trends
- Ensuring compliance with mandatory reporting requirements, privacy and confidentiality legislation, infection control standards and organisational policies
- Upholding safe work practices, participating in risk management activities and fulfilling all mandatory training obligations
What you’ll need to succeed
- Demonstrated experience in a WHS Advisor or similar role, ideally within aged care, healthcare or a regulated environment
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, hazard management and injury management processes
- Experience conducting incident investigations, risk assessments and audits
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement and coaching capability
- Strong written, verbal and reporting skills
- A proactive approach to safety and continuous improvement
