This government organisation plays a critical role in delivering housing and accommodation services to support Australia’s Defence personnel and their families. Managing a large, nationally dispersed property portfolio, they are focused on providing high-quality housing solutions, maintenance services, and support programs that contribute to Defence capability and operational readiness. They are currently seeking 3x Technical Construction Officers to be based in Brisbane, Darwin and Perth.
Your new role
Reporting to the Technical Construction Manager, you will provide technical expertise across residential construction, upgrade, and heritage projects, while also supporting defect management and complex maintenance issues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting property inspections to identify risks, defects, and required works
- Managing contractor works, ensuring quality, compliance, and timely delivery.
- Monitoring contractor performance and resolving issues promptly
- Providing specialist technical advice on complex building and maintenance matters
- Managing and resolving construction defects in line with relevant legislation
- Supporting acquisition and leasing programs with technical input
- Preparing scopes of works and assisting with procurement and tender processes
- Providing contract administration support, including inspections, progress tracking, and payment processing
What you'll need to succeed
- Minimum 5 years’ trade experience in residential construction
- Trade or tertiary qualification in construction or a related discipline
- Strong ability to interpret plans, specifications, NCC, and Australian Standards
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results under limited supervision
- Experience supervising trades and managing construction activities
- Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving capabilities
Mandatory requirements:
- You must be an Australian Citizen and have the ability to obtain a Baseline Security Clearance
- Valid driving licence
- White Card
- Ability to work on-site in Darwin, Perth, or Brisbane
