The Systems Accountant plays a pivotal role in the strategic and operational management of financial systems across the department. This position ensures the integrity, performance, and continuous improvement of financial systems, provides technical and business process support to users, and contributes to system upgrades, reporting, and compliance. The role is essential in aligning financial systems with departmental goals and legislative requirements.
Your new role
- Monitor and maintain financial systems to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Provide technical support and consultancy to users on financial systems and accounting operations.
- Authorise system access and maintain security protocols to ensure data integrity.
- Assist in planning and implementing system upgrades, including testing, training, and change management.
- Develop specifications, task requests, business requirements, and scoping documents.
- Coordinate system development and enhancements in collaboration with vendors and third-party providers.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of system training documentation and user guides.
- Support the Manager, Financial Systems in evaluating, maintaining, and developing financial systems and policies.
- Provide consultancy and advisory services to internal and external stakeholders on financial systems and reporting.
- Contribute to the design and development of financial reports and dashboards.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, vendors, and external stakeholders.
- Represent the department on committees and working groups as required.
- Ensure financial systems comply with relevant legislation, accounting standards, and governance frameworks.
- Support audit processes and contribute to risk identification and mitigation strategies.
- Perform other duties as required in alignment with strategic objectives, business plans, and performance management frameworks.
What you'll need to succeed
- Degree in Accounting and/or Information Systems (IS/IT); CPA or CA qualification highly regarded.
- 6–10+ years of experience working with ERP systems in a financial or systems accounting capacity.
- Preferred experience with SAP ERP systems.
- Familiarity with multiple ERP modules including: General Ledger (GL) Fixed Assets, Procurement, Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), Banking, Budgeting and Forecasting
- Hands-on experience in system implementation and/or module configuration.
- Desirable technical skills: SQL, Power BI, BI Desktop, Data Warehousing, Reporting tools such as Hyperion or Quick Clicks
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong experience in stakeholder engagement, including: requirements gathering, design specification, business case development
- Understanding of the system development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Experience in developing and executing system testing protocols.
- Desirable knowledge of database methodologies or programming.
- Proven ability to lead change management initiatives and drive process improvements or automation.
