Your new role

The primary purpose of the Surveillance Officer position is to manage routine and specialist surveillance activities and assist in complex surveillance activities on nominated contract works for the administration of road, bridge and/or maritime maintenance and construction works to ensure delivery in accordance with client time, quality and scope requirements.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Provide a specialist, non-routine surveillance capability in support of Agency works to verify that work has been performed in accordance with applicable standards, specifications and processes.
  • Monitor, support and influence development partner progress against agreed milestones and deliverables to support the Agency’s program of work.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced Surveillance Officers, engineering and project staff to reinforce best-practice surveillance and project practices within their sphere of influence.
Act as a source of technical advice for trades, engineering and project staff within their area of specialisation to build capability and improve project and/ or maintenance outcomes.


What you'll get in return

  • Extensive experience with the technologies, practices and processes of civil construction and maintenance works.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of, and experience in applying, the standards, policies and codes of practice applicable to the conduct of civil construction and maintenance work.
  • Demonstrated ability to source, analyse, interpret and contribute to project, construction and contract documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience in record keeping and document management in a construction or maintenance environment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills and a proven ability to foster positive, collaborative and constructive relationships in a construction and/or maintenance environment.
  • Proven planning and organisational skills with a demonstrated capacity to work under and manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Possess a valid Australian motor vehicle driving licence and be willing to work outside regular working hours and travel across the network as required. Standard working hours are 38 hours per week; working arrangements and remuneration for such work will be in accordance with the relevant sections of your industrial instrument.
