Your new role
You will design, implement, and manage the Azure SQL database infrastructure supporting the business unit. The focus is on modernizing and supporting secure, high-performing, and resilient application database environments that underpin business-critical systems.
You will be responsible for administering and optimizing Azure SQL Managed Instances (MI) and on-premises SQL Servers, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s cloud, security, and service management standards.
In this role you will,
- Deploy, configure, and manage VNet-integrated Azure SQL Managed Instances supporting production and non-production workloads.
- Implement zone-redundant high availability, automated backups, and long-term retention (LTR) policies.
- Manage geo-restore and point-in-time restore (PITR) strategies for disaster recovery and business continuity.
- Ensure optimal performance, cost management, and compliance within Azure environments.
- Understand and apply Azure SQL MI high availability and disaster recovery architecture across regions.
- Oversee end-to-end management of SQL databases including performance tuning, backup/restore, and user access control.
- Conduct regular database integrity checks (DBCC), index rebuilds, and statistics updates.
- Analyze query performance and resource utilization to optimize throughput and reliability.
- Manage SQL Server Agent jobs, maintenance plans, and automation scripts.
- Configure Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Query Store for telemetry, diagnostics, and trend analysis.
- Create and maintain custom dashboards, alerts, and automated remediation scripts for proactive performance management.
- Identify and resolve issues related to CPU, memory, I/O, blocking, and deadlocks.
- Support developers and application teams to diagnose and resolve SQL query or performance issues.
What you'll need to succeed
- Have minimum 5 years of experience in SQL Server Database Administration
- Have minimum 5 years of experience in Microsoft Azure IAAS/PAAS/SAAS cloud technologies
- Have minimum 5 years of experience in Microsoft Windows Server technologies including AD, IIS, SMB, PowerShell
- Have solid experience in PowerBI / Reporting / Integration Services and related technologies.
- Have strong Microsoft Azure Design and Support experience working on medium to large, complex projects
- Have strong Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration experience supporting critical enterprise systems
- Have Windows Server experience - Active Directory, Software management, SMB, IIS, PowerShell, Task Scheduler, Networking, Security, Patching
