Site Safety Officer

Exciting short-term opportunity for a skilled Site Safety Officer to work on a large FNQ Project - DIDO!

HAYS Construction & Engineering NQ are excited to partner with one of Australia’s leading infrastructure and construction companies to support a key disaster recovery project in Far North Queensland. This established civil contractor is seeking a capable and proactive Site Safety Officer on a contract role initially offered for 2 - 3 months, with the potential for extension.

Your new role

This position has been created to provide on-site safety support. You will work closely with the Senior Safety Advisor, Site Manager, Superintendent, and Supervisor to uphold a strong safety culture and ensure compliance across all site activities. You will be responsible for maintaining safety systems, conducting inspections, and supporting incident management processes. The role requires a hands-on approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently when required.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Conducting daily site safety inspections and hazard identification
  • Monitoring subcontractor compliance with WHS policies and procedures
  • Assisting with incident investigations and reporting
  • Maintaining accurate safety records
  • Reviewing and supporting Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and risk assessments
  • Participating in toolbox talks, pre-start meetings, and safety briefings
  • Auditing PPE usage, site signage, and emergency preparedness
  • Navigating project documentation via the intranet and internal systems


What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
  • Construction White Card
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Previous experience ideally in civil construction
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and support senior safety personnel
  • Willingness to learn and manage safety administration systems
