Your new role
As a Senior Systems Administrator – Linux, you will provide hands-on administration and engineering across Linux platforms and supporting infrastructure services. You will be responsible for the build, configuration, patching, upgrades, security hardening, automation, troubleshooting, and operational support of Linux systems in complex enterprise environments. This position contributes to the stability, security, performance, and recoverability of Linux platforms and ensures services are delivered in line with client’s operational standards, change governance, and quality procedures.
Role and responsibilities:
- Engineer and administer Linux systems, including software installation, patching, OS upgrades, kernel updates, configuration management, and maintenance activities.
- Perform system health checks, performance tuning, and remediation of OS-level issues to maintain platform reliability and availability.
- Perform platform lifecycle activities such as re-platforming, migrations, and refresh uplift, ensuring changes are planned, validated, and documented.
- Implement and maintain Linux security hardening controls aligned to SRO security standards and approved baselines (e.g., secure configuration, SSH controls, least privilege, audit logging).
- Identify, assess, and remediate OS-level vulnerabilities and configuration gaps in line with organisational priorities and change governance.
- Administer and support enterprise scheduling and job control processes (e.g., Autosys or equivalent) including troubleshooting job failures and improving job reliability.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation to reduce manual effort, improve quality, and uplift operational consistency (e.g., Bash, Python).
What you'll need to succeed
- Extensive experience administering enterprise Linux environments (ideally Oracle Linux and/or RHEL), including build, patching, upgrades, troubleshooting and performance tuning in production.
- Demonstrated capability implementing and maintaining Linux security hardening and vulnerability remediation in line with organisational standards, including privileged access, auditing/logging and secure configuration baselines.
- Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Bash/Python) with experience using scheduling and configuration management/automation tools (e.g., Autosys and Puppet/Ansible or equivalent) to improve reliability and reduce manual effort.
- Proven experience supporting Linux integration with enterprise storage and backup/recovery services, including mounts/multipathing, backup agents/policies, and restore validation (e.g., Veeam or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience providing 3rd level support within ITSM practices, including monitoring/alerting integration (e.g., Splunk/HipLink or equivalent), root cause analysis, and clear technical documentation and stakeholder communication.
What you'll get in return
- Initial 1-year contract + 2-year extension.
- $900 - $1100 + Superannuation per day.
