Your new role

The senior risk consultant role involves delivering independent internal audit, risk and process improvement services to clients. The focus is on reviewing and assessing how effective internal controls, risk management and governance processes are, while making sure all work meets professional standards, regulatory requirements and client expectations. In this role, you also support and mentor junior team members, helping them build their skills and confidence. It’s a hands-on position that requires strong communication, a practical approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work closely with clients and team members to deliver quality outcomes.


As an experienced Senior Risk Consultant, you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Support and guide risk consultants in their day-to-day responsibilities
  • Share advice on audit methods and best practices to help team development
  • Deliver training and coaching to build team capability
  • Help develop internal audit plans based on risk priorities
  • Assist with preparing surveys, workshops and identifying key audit areas
  • Work with stakeholders to align audit work with business goals
  • Support risk assessments to identify key risk areas
  • Help plan and scope audit projects
  • Carry out audit fieldwork including data collection and analysis
  • Check compliance with policies, laws and regulations
  • Flag any signs of fraud, conflicts of interest or irregularities
  • Make sure audit work follows professional standards and internal processes
  • Write clear audit reports with findings, risks and recommendations
  • Present audit results to stakeholders with manager support
  • Follow up on past audit issues and check if actions have been taken
  • Build strong working relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Keep audit documentation accurate, organised and confidential
  • Take part in peer reviews and quality checks of audit work

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, Risk Management, Governance or related field

  • Experience in internal auditing, risk management or related field (preferred but not essential)

  • Professional certification (e.g. Institute of Internal Auditors – IIA) or currently studying toward certification (preferred but not essential)

  • Proven ability to coach, train and mentor auditors

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to assess complex information, identify control weaknesses and propose practical solutions

  • Confident in presenting audit findings and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels

  • Able to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and work both independently and in a team
