This is a long-term contract engagement with the department for a Senior IAM Engineer to deliver secure identity transformation across a complex enterprise environment. This team is responsible for identity and access management, Windows Server environments, and privileged access solutions, ensuring a strong security posture across the organisation. An active NV1 clearance is preferred; Baseline clearance with eligibility to upgrade will also be considered. This role is only open to candidates based in Canberra, ACT.
Your new role
As a Senior IAM Engineer, you’ll be the technical authority for Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM) and related identity platforms. You’ll design, implement, and optimise identity workflows that underpin secure access across the organisation. This role offers hands-on engineering combined with strategic input, giving you the opportunity to shape governance and roadmap decisions while delivering real technical outcomes. You’ll work closely with infrastructure, cyber security, HR, and application teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and maintain enterprise identity platforms including Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM) and Unify Broker.
- Troubleshoot and advise on identity and access workflows, particularly MIM integration with HR systems.
- Drive improvements in identity workflows and configurations to enhance security and user experience.
- Collaborate across teams to deliver secure identity services and contribute to strategic IAM planning.
- Prepare quality documentation including change records, procedures, designs, and security assessments.
- Support knowledge sharing and upskilling within the team.
- Contribute to Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions such as CyberArk and Secret Server.
What you'll need to succeed
Essential:
- 5+ years’ experience with IAM technologies including MIM, Unify Broker, advanced PowerShell scripting, and Entra ID.
- Strong understanding of access governance and integration with HR systems in complex environments.
- Ability to mentor and upskill team members.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of cyber security tools and ACSC frameworks (ISM, Essential Eight).
- Experience with Windows Server environments, Active Directory, DNS, PKI, ADFS, Intune, and MECM/SCCM.
- Strong documentation skills (SOPs, design documents).
