Your new role
As Senior Electrical Engineer – Transmission, you will develop and maintain design standards for sub-transmission assets, including 132/11kV zone substations, 132kV overhead lines, underground cables, and associated protection and control systems. You will provide subject matter expertise and strengthen high-voltage design capability across primary and secondary systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain technical design standards and specifications for sub-transmission assets.
- Provide expertise in 132kV primary plant layout, protection system design, and IEC 61850-based secondary systems.
- Prepare and review standard drawings, technical manuals, and construction specifications.
- Assess and implement new technologies and engineering solutions aligned with operational and regulatory requirements.
- Manage external engineering consultants and ensure quality deliverables.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across planning, design, operations, and asset management.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, codes, and safety standards.
What you’ll need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and ACT Professional Engineering Registration (or ability to obtain).
- Deep technical expertise in at least one of the following:
- Primary electrical substation design
- Transmission line design
- Protection and secondary systems design
- Strong understanding of Australian and international standards and regulatory obligations.
- Experience preparing technical standards and design drawings within a utility or consulting environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
