Responsibilities & Expertise
In your new role as a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you'll work alongside a team of 16–20 engineers and report directly to the Engineering Manager.
Preparation of Budget Estimates and Tender Proposals: Lead the development of comprehensive cost estimates and competitive tender submissions for electrical engineering projects.
End-to-End Project Delivery: Manage electrical engineering and installation projects from inception to completion, ensuring technical excellence and timely execution.
Client Engagement and Relationship Management: Foster strong client relationships by managing expectations, ensuring satisfaction, and securing formal project acceptance.
Project Management:
Oversee all aspects of project planning, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and execution of work plans.
Electrical Design Leadership: Direct in-house electrical design activities, guiding a team of engineers and drafters to deliver high-quality technical solutions.
Switchboard and Distribution System Design: Specialise in the design of Main Switchboards, Motor Control Centres (MCC/PCC), and Distribution Boards.
High Voltage Systems Expertise:
Possess working knowledge of HV protection systems, earthing methodologies, and arc flash analysis—highly regarded.
Technical Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed project documentation including functional descriptions, electrical schedules, drawings, and factory acceptance test (FAT) records.
Commissioning and Support Services:
Conduct on-site testing, commissioning, and provide ongoing maintenance and technical support.
Client-Site Operations: Operate across metropolitan Melbourne with occasional interstate travel, delivering services directly at client locations.
Qualifications & Experience (Essential)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Registered with Engineers Australia or Professionals Australia
- Over 10 years of experience in industrial electrical engineering, covering design, panel construction/modification, supervision, site installation, and commissioning
- Proficient in power and control circuit design, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and motor control, including VSDs
- Skilled in machine safety control system design and implementation
- Strong AutoCAD/EPLAN capabilities, including single-line diagrams, motor schematics, and loop diagrams
- Technically adept with Microsoft operating systems and documentation tools; experienced in producing high-quality reports such as load lists, cable schedules, I/O schedules, scopes of work, and technical specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications & Expertise (Highly regarded)CPEng accreditation will be highly regarded.
Experience with the design, classification and implementation of electrical equipment installed within Explosive Atmospheres (competency training preferred).
Design of power circuits including discrimination, cascading & arc flash analysis.
High voltage design including protection and earthing studies.
Experience working within the process industry, including the ability to read and interpret P&ID’s.
