Your new company
A national not-for-profit organistation with flexibility to work either in Brisbane / Melbourne.
Your new role
We are embarking on an initiative to standardize our reporting data sources in Fabric, to automate our current manual reporting, support future AI initiatives and to move towards a business self-service model with reporting visualizations.
You will provide advice on architecture design, as well as implement data engineering solutions, supporting the existing Data Lead. We are looking for someone who has data architecture/data engineering experience in general and has had experience with Fabric solutions.
In this role you will,
- Design and deliver data solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Azure, including Lakehouse and Warehouse architectures
- Build and orchestrate data pipelines, notebooks, and transformations to support batch, API‑driven, and incremental data ingestion
- Apply an understanding of database platform behaviour and performance to inform data design and scalability
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to capture requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Design appropriate data connectivity patterns, including correct use of cloud connections and on‑premises data gateways
- Design automated patterns for data quality, monitoring, optimisation, and recovery
- Apply knowledge of backup, restore, and recovery concepts to ensure resilient data solutions
- Reduce technical debt and improve the reliability and operational maturity of data platforms
- Apply data governance principles to ensure data is secure, trusted, and compliant
- Participate in agile delivery practices, including stand‑ups, planning, elaboration, and retrospectives
- Document data engineering processes, standards, and technical assets (including data pipelines, transformations, and data models) to support consistent delivery, operational support, onboarding, and long‑term maintainability
What you'll need to succeed
- Experience delivering data engineering solutions and implementing medallion architecture data models using Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouses, Warehouses, pipelines, and notebooks (PySpark/SQL)
- Familiarity with deployment and lifecycle management practices for Fabric artefacts including Dev/Test/Prod separation and controlled releases
- Experience designing and optimising Fabric workloads within capacity constraints to ensure reliable, performant pipelines
- Experience migrating and modernising data solutions from on-premises or legacy systems into Fabric and Azure cloud environments
- Strong understanding of data governance, access control, and security models within Microsoft Fabric and Azure
- Strong SQL skills, including performance tuning, data validation, transformation logic and complex joins across large datasets
- Solid understanding of Azure data services and hybrid cloud data architectures, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Storage (Blob & ADLS Gen2), Azure SQL
- Ability to automate and parameterise data workflows using scripting or cloud‑native services (e.g. PowerShell, Python, or Azure Functions)
- Ability to evaluate cloud versus on‑premises data platforms and provide informed technical guidance
- Knowledge of data connectivity patterns, gateways, and secure access mechanisms
- Strong collaboration and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to improve existing designs
What you'll get in return
- Working in an organisation where they develop and grow careers.
- A stable and permanent opportunity offering a competitive salary package.
- Flexible working arrangements, including 2-3 day per week in the office
