A leading government department is seeking a highly capable Senior Business Support Officer to provide critical business, financial, and human resources support across a fast paced and high impact environment. Your new role
Reporting to senior leaders, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive support services across administration, finance, human resources and project coordination. Your ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and deliver high quality outputs will be essential to your success.
- Maintain and improve administrative systems, processes, and governance frameworks.
- Prepare high quality correspondence, reports, ministerial submissions, and briefing material.
- Coordinate records management, mail distribution, fleet vehicle reporting, and tele/videoconferencing.
- Provide back up support across administrative functions as required.
- Undertake research, improvement initiatives, and project coordination tasks.
- Liaise with internal/external stakeholders to gather information and support branch priorities.
- Contribute to cross divisional activities and assist with minor IT project coordination.
- Support the preparation of business cases, funding submissions, and budget monitoring.
- Oversee accurate and timely invoice processing, fund recovery, and compliance with financial policy.
- Work closely with Procurement to ensure cost effective purchasing of goods and services.
- Deliver high-level advice to Executive and Senior Managers.
- Manage recruitment processes, employment administration, and workforce support.
- Apply legislation, policy, and best practice in day to day operations.
- Provide case-by-case guidance with a strong understanding of divisional programs and priorities.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in the role, you will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Ability to interpret legislation, awards, and policies to support sound decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities with experience in financial and administrative systems.
- Experience supporting organisational change and managing HR, WHS, risk, and administrative processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the creation of high-quality documents and presentations.
- Experience in budgeting, FTE monitoring, and financial processing (journals, recharges, invoices).
- Understanding of confidentiality, privacy, and public sector responsibilities.
- Experience as a Senior Business Support Officer within government.
