Senior Business Analyst (Data/Reporting)

Clayton, VIC (3 days per week in the office)| 12‑Month Contract

A leading higher education organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst with a strong data and analytics background to support the delivery of a new Student Management System (SMS) reporting environment.

This is a high‑impact role where you’ll work across faculties and central teams to shape how student data is defined, governed, and reported across the university.

Your new role

This role suits someone with a strong analytical mindset, excellent facilitation skills, and experience working across large, diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement to understand current and future reporting needs
  • Analyse existing data usage and translate requirements into data products and reporting solutions
  • Define business metrics, data definitions, and data quality rules
  • Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure successful delivery
  • Act as a key bridge between business stakeholders, data analysts, and engineering teams
  • Process Analysis: Lead current‑state and future‑state analysis across the SMS data lifecycle, with an initial focus on identifying key reporting use cases
  • Requirements Elicitation: Facilitate workshops and interviews; produce artefacts including user stories, use cases, process maps, and data dictionaries
  • Source System Analysis: Investigate and profile data across enterprise systems (e.g. Salesforce CRM), documenting relationships, keys, and historical data behaviours
  • Metrics & Semantic Definition: Define operational and analytical metrics, dimensional attributes, hierarchies, and row‑level security requirements
  • Backlog Management: Translate business needs into epics and user stories with clear DoR and DoD; collaborate with delivery squads on solution design
  • Stakeholder Management: Work across faculties and administrative units, manage trade‑offs, and maintain RAID items
  • Documentation:Maintain requirements, lineage diagrams, ERDs, and data runbooks in Jira and Confluence
What you'll need to succeed

  • 5+ years’ experience in data‑focused Business Analyst roles with a background in Data Analytics
  • Experience delivering on large‑scale data or system transformation programs
  • Strong SQL skills for data profiling, reconciliation, and issue investigation
  • Solid understanding of data modelling, reporting, and BI architectures
  • Hands‑on experience managing data quality issues
  • Proven experience in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban)
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills across business and technical audiences
  • Strong working knowledge of Jira and Confluence
