The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to lead and deliver exceptional accounting and tax compliance services. Reporting to the Principal, you will manage a team, oversee client engagements from planning through to finalisation, and identify opportunities to enhance both client value and firm performance. This hands-on role blends technical review, client liaison, and people leadership, guiding a mid-sized portfolio of private and corporate clients.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor a direct team of accountants and support staff
Coordinate workflow, allocate resources, and manage billing in conjunction with the Principal
Drive technical and professional development, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
Compliance Delivery
Prepare and review financial statements, tax returns, and compliance deliverables
Manage engagement letters, workpapers, and source document collation
Ensure technical accuracy and completeness of client files, addressing high-level issues and review queries
Client Relationship Management
Serve as primary or secondary contact for client meetings (tax planning, exit meetings, consulting sessions)
Handle ongoing advice through calls, video conferences, and email correspondence
Proactively identify and communicate value-add strategies tailored to client goals
Process and Quality Improvement
Analyse compliance workflows to recommend efficiency enhancements (software use, templates, checklists)
Conduct regular file reviews and feedback sessions with team members
Collaborate with Principals and Directors on firm-wide initiatives and monthly strategy meetings
Growth and Opportunity Identification
Spot cross-sell and up-sell opportunities within existing client base
Support business development through thought leadership and client workshops
Partner with leadership to refine service offerings and drive practice performance
Skills & Experience
Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) qualification
Minimum 5 years’ experience in public practice, including compliance and advisory services
Proven track record in team management and workflow coordination
Deep technical expertise in Australian tax legislation and financial reporting standards
Exceptional communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to build lasting relationships
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with a focus on process improvement
