Our client is a Brisbane-Based Public Sector Authority. They are looking to engage a Science Technician to join their Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity division as part of the diagnostic team providing services on their Panama Program.
Your New Role
We are seeking a Science Technician to support plant health diagnostics and biosecurity initiatives.
In this role, you will:
- Maintain, undertake, check and arrange for calibration of laboratory equipment according to the equipment quality maintenance schedule.
- Preparing reagents, mixtures and media
- Monitoring and managing the supply of consumable resources
- Cleaning and sterilising work areas, equipment and materials
- Undertaking specialised observations such as recognising relevant species and identifying environmental conditions
- Preparing, collecting and managing specimens and samples
- Ensuring sample integrity via appropriate specimen/sample preservation, handling and transport
- Performing tests and conducting analyses
- Measuring and collecting analytical data
- Recording and documenting data using defined systems and methods
- Other moderately complex/specialised/non-routine laboratory- or field-based scientific technical activities as directed
What You’ll Need to Succeed
To be successful, you will need:
- Mandatory: An Australian Diploma (AQF Level 5) or higher in Science or a relevant field from a recognised tertiary institution.
- For international qualifications: Certification assessment to determine equivalency with the Australian Qualifications Framework.
- Strong expertise in traditional and molecular techniques for diagnosing Panama and other plant diseases.
- Experience in laboratory quality management and high-throughput sequencing (HTS) platforms is highly desirable.
