Procurement Coordinator

Experienced procurement professional available for a contract role where you can add immediate value

Your new company

This contract position sits within a council environment where procurement plays a critical role in delivering community and operational outcomes. You’ll take ownership of the procurement function, working collaboratively across the organisation to ensure compliance, drive efficiencies and support continuous improvement.

Leading a small team, you’ll coordinate a centralised and strategic approach to procurement while influencing best practice across all business units.

  • Implement and uphold Council’s Procurement Policy to ensure full legislative compliance
  • Lead and manage the procurement function, driving a coordinated approach to identify efficiencies and cost savings.
  • Oversee the preparation, issuing and evaluation of tenders, quotes and EOIs, including supporting contract negotiations to achieve value-for-money outcomes.
  • Develop, implement and review probity plans to ensure transparent and compliant procurement processes
  • Maintain and enhance contract management frameworks aligned with best practice service delivery standards
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers, including engaging local businesses to promote participation in procurement opportunities
  • Establish and oversee procurement audit functions to monitor risk, compliance and governance, providing regular reporting to management
  • Represent Council on the Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils’ Procurement Committee

  • Prepare and deliver high-quality reports for Council and executive stakeholders
  • Promote strong recordkeeping practices aligned with corporate systems and policies
  • Provide leadership, support and direction to procurement staff while fostering a high-performing team environment
  • Drive continuous improvement across procurement processes, systems and supplier arrangements
This is a highly visible leadership role, ideal for a hands-on procurement professional who enjoys influencing strategy while remaining operationally involved.

  • Strong reporting and presentation skills
  • Sound commercial acumen with a focus on efficiency and continuous improvement
  • High level organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly in governance and recordkeeping
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant procurement experience
