Principal Portfolio Planning Lead

Lead strategic planning for major infrastructure projects. High-impact, collaborative role with global reach.

Your new company

Join a globally recognised resources organisation known for its scale, complexity, and commitment to innovation. This company operates across multiple continents and is deeply invested in sustainable practices and long-term infrastructure planning. With a strong focus on technology-enabled transformation, they offer a dynamic environment where strategic thinkers and problem solvers thrive.

Your new role

As the Principal Portfolio Planning Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of infrastructure and technology investments. Sitting at the intersection of strategy, engineering, and delivery, you’ll guide the lifecycle of ideas from concept through to investment prioritisation. This role is central to the organisation’s 3-to-5-year planning horizon and 2-year budget cycle, ensuring alignment between customer needs, technical feasibility, and commercial viability.
You’ll partner with stakeholders across operations, engineering, and technology to frame opportunities, assess value, and provide clear investment pathways. Expect to lead opportunity assessments, cost estimations, and value engineering discussions—often before funding is allocated. Your ability to ask the right questions, challenge assumptions, and respectfully navigate complex conversations will be key to success.

What you'll need to succeed

  • A background in mining, infrastructure, or heavy industry—ideally as a mine engineer, process engineer, electrician, or communications technician who’s transitioned into project or portfolio roles.

  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in value engineering, cost modelling, and opportunity assessment.

  • A consultative mindset—able to partner with stakeholders, understand pain points, and co-design solutions.

  • Exceptional communication skills and emotional intelligence—able to disarm tension and drive clarity in ambiguous situations.

  • Experience working across infrastructure domains such as water, power, or communications.

  • Degree or trade qualifications, with the ability to spot technical inconsistencies and challenge respectfully.

  • A natural curiosity and drive to learn, with a personality that thrives in collaborative, high-stakes environments.

What you'll get in return

  • A high-impact role in one of the most strategically important areas of the business.

  • Daily rate contract with strong potential for extension (80%+ likelihood).

  • Exposure to senior stakeholders and decision-makers across operations and technology.

  • A chance to shape long-term investment decisions that influence the future of infrastructure and innovation.

  • A supportive, values-driven culture that prioritises safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
