Job Opportunity: Principal Planner

Salary: $95,000 per annum + super (up to 11%)
About the Role: As a Principal Planner, you’ll play a crucial role in shaping a better community. Your responsibility will be to provide high quality specialist services, guidance and advice in statutory planning and subdivision control through the assessment of planning permit applications and assessing complex and/or major applications. Specifically, you will:
- Provide technical expertise and lead the assessment of highly complex development matters related to land use impacts.
- Engage proactively with key stakeholders, conduct site inspections, and investigate development applications.
- Lead the levying and recovery of infrastructure costs, including negotiating complex infrastructure agreements.
- Position Specific Responsibilities: In addition to the above, your role will involve:
- Delivering a full range of quality town planning services, with an emphasis on leadership, guidance, and mentoring.
- Supporting the implementation of changes across the unit.
- Participating in the preparation and delivery of council plans and strategies, business plans, and service reviews.
- Assisting in leading the team’s community engagement activities focused on education about projects/programs or significant applicant/objector consultation.
- Ensuring that team members are knowledgeable about legislation, regulations, and policies relevant to the services and advice provided by the unit.
- Coordinating and representing the council at tribunals, hearings, public meetings, and applicant/objector meetings.
- Assisting in the coordination and monitoring of the assessment of planning applications, delivery of planning advice, and associated administrative tasks across the team.
Qualifications and Experience: To be successful in this role, you should have: - A Degree in Planning or equivalent experience in a Planning role.
- High-level knowledge of legislation, state planning policies, regional plans, and planning schemes.
- Excellent communication skills to influence key stakeholders and negotiate good design outcomes.
