This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Practitioner to join a local government organisation, where you will play a key part in ensuring all employees are paid correctly and on time. The organisation operates within a structured environment supported by strong governance frameworks and clearly defined processes.
You will work closely with a highly experienced SME and receive comprehensive training to transition into taking ownership of BAU payroll responsibilities, enabling the SME to focus on project delivery.
Your new role
As the Payroll Practitioner, you will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the timely and accurate completion of all payroll-related data to support correct and on-time payment of employees.
- Processing and validating accurate end-to-end payroll and establishment transactions.
- Delivering all required pre-payroll and post-payroll procedural activities.
- Supporting the Payroll Team Leader by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement within payroll processes and services.
- Building and maintaining productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Managing competing priorities effectively through strong time-management and organisational skills.
What you'll need to succeed
- Proven ability to accurately perform core payroll and administrative responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of leave loadings, penalty rates, long service leave, and leave portability requirements.
- Previous experience working in payroll or financial management environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and/or practical experience, using SAP Payroll systems.
- Comprehensive end-to-end payroll processing experience.
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing proactively and collaboratively within a high-performing team.
- High level of personal accountability with a consistent focus on delivering reliable, high-quality outcomes.
- Clear, confident, and respectful communication skills, with the ability to interpret needs and engage constructively with others
