Standalone Payroll Officer for growing construction business in South-West Sydney

Join a well‑established and rapidly growing construction services business that has been operating for 11 years. Based in South-Western Sydney, this friendly and relaxed team is looking to create a dedicated payroll function separate from finance. With strong growth and an increasing workforce, they are seeking a detail‑oriented Payroll Officer to take ownership of end‑to‑end payroll and improve processes across the business. This role will commence on a temporary basis with a view to permanency.

Your new role

As the Payroll Officer, you will manage weekly and monthly payroll cycles while supporting improvements to systems and processes. Key duties include:
  • Processing a small volume payroll across weekly and monthly with headcount fluctuating depending on projects
  • End‑to‑end payroll duties including onboarding and offboarding.
  • Ensuring accuracy of allowances, entitlements and Awards.
  • Manage timesheets and ensure data integrity
  • Maintaining compliance with payroll legislation and Award requirements.
  • Identifying inefficiencies and helping streamline manual processes.
  • Chase outstanding dockets/paperwork from operators on site and liaise with site admin.
  • Assisting with new payroll software implementation
  • Providing ad hoc support to the finance team during quieter payroll periods.
  • Communicating confidently with stakeholders

What you'll need to succeed

  • Strong end‑to‑end payroll experience.
  • Compliance knowledge & fairwork regulations.
  • Accuracy and precise attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills; able to prioritise tasks.
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation, awards and entitlements.
  • Experience in construction payroll highly desirable.
  • Ability to work with fluctuating volumes and manual processes.
  • Confidence to challenge and influence when necessary.
