Our client is a reputable government department. The internal Legal Services team maintains professional independence and provides comprehensive legal support across the agency’s operations. Its responsibilities include delivering legal advice, managing litigation matters, supporting criminal and financial investigations, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, and drafting and submitting applications for statutory warrants.

Your new role

The Paralegal is responsible for providing sound administrative and paralegal assistance to the Legal Services team to support effective and efficient legal services within the Commission.


Key responsibilities:

  • Provide efficient administrative and paralegal assistance to support the operation of legal services within the organisation, including photocopying, scanning, file collation and management, telephone inquiries, organising and supporting meetings, etc.

  • Conduct guided legal research and analysis to support the functions of the Commission and ensure on-time, quality delivery consistent with agreed outcomes; this may include the interrogation of various databases and information systems.

  • Prepare draft legal documents (e.g. warrants, affidavits, summonses, orders, caveats) and other court documentation; assist in the preparation of briefs to counsel; provide assistance in overall document finalisation; serve, lodge or submit documents as required.

  • Draft timely and accurate legal and other routine correspondence to assist legal staff and provide assistance in overall document finalisation and dissemination.

  • File documents with court registries and liaise with court registry staff on routine and/or administrative issues (e.g. hearings, settlements, bail documents, etc.).

What you'll need to succeed

  • You must be available to work 5 days per week.
  • Paralegal or administrative experience in a high-volume work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide high-level customer service and liaise effectively with legal professionals.
  • Sound research, analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise a range of tasks for stakeholders at various levels.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a multidisciplinary team and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to deal with and maintain confidential and sensitive information with tact, discretion and judgement.
