Nurse Manager, Urgent Care

Nurse Manager, Urgent Care

Your new company

You’ll be joining a newly established Urgent Care Centre in Canberra, launching a modern, fast-response service for non-life-threatening but urgent presentations. These centres support local communities by managing acute injuries, complex walk-ins and cases that would otherwise present to an emergency department. This is an opportunity to help shape the foundation of a new urgent care model as it begins its national rollout.

Your new role

As the Urgent Care Nurse Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day clinical operations of a dynamic urgent care environment. You’ll lead and support a team of registered nurses, paramedics and junior clinical staff, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the urgent care centre is fully equipped, compliant and ready for operations.
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding and development of nursing and clinical staff.
  • Streamlining workflows to improve patient flow and reduce wait times.
  • Leading quality assurance, audits, incident reporting and accreditation readiness.
  • Overseeing stock, equipment, medications and safe clinical practice.
  • Providing hands-on clinical support and guidance when required.

You will be stepping into a role suited to a capable clinician ready to take on leadership responsibilities and help build strong, safe clinical foundations.

What you'll need to succeed

You will bring:

  • Registered Nurse qualifications with around 3+ years’ recent clinical experience.
  • Background in ED, urgent care, triage, critical care, ICU, remote, primary care or community settings.
  • The desire and confidence to step up in your leadership journey.
  • Strong clinical judgement, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • The ability to work hands-on while also supporting others.
  • A Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain).

What you'll get in return

This role offers a level of work–life balance rarely available in urgent or acute care. You will benefit from:

  • Set, family-friendly hours (8am–4pm, Monday–Friday).
  • Flexibility within those hours to support childcare or family needs.
  • No shift work, no nights, no weekends, and minimal after-hours requirements.
  • Competitive salary of $100–110k + $8–10k bonus (half-yearly). (Salary could be negotiated above in certain cases)
  • A balanced blend of clinical leadership and administrative focus.
  • Exposure to a modern urgent care model working closely with onsite doctors.
  • A genuine career step for clinicians ready to move beyond treatment room work into broader urgent care leadership.
