Your new role
As a Media Advisor, you will play a key role in managing media enquiries, emerging issues and reputational risks in a fast-paced and highly visible environment. Working closely with senior leaders, you will provide timely and strategic media advice while supporting the delivery of government priorities.
You will develop and implement media and communication activities that enhance public awareness and stakeholder engagement. This includes preparing high-quality content across a range of channels, including media releases, web content, social media, speeches, briefing materials and internal communications.
A significant focus of the role will be managing reactive media. You will respond to media enquiries, coordinate responses to emerging issues, provide advice on potential risks and ensure accurate, consistent messaging under tight deadlines. You will also identify proactive media opportunities, contribute to communication and media strategies, build and maintain strong relationships with journalists and key stakeholders, and monitor media coverage to evaluate effectiveness and identify emerging trends.
What you'll need to succeed
Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, public relations or equivalent experience
Demonstrated experience in media and communications, preferably within government or a complex stakeholder environment
Strong media relations experience, including reactive media, issues management and handling complex enquiries
Proven ability to provide strategic media advice to senior leaders
Excellent written and verbal communication skills across traditional, digital and internal channels
Ability to develop clear messaging and tailor communications for different audiences
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
Sound judgement, political awareness and a solutions-focused mindset
Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing competing deadlines
Valid National Police Check
