In this position, you will be responsible for coordinating all operational assets and project tasks within the Engineering Department to ensure that buildings, equipment and facilities are maintained to the highest possible standard.

Your new role

  • Ensure all preventative and reactive maintenance of the site assets to meet operational requirements, SJGHC’s obligations with respect to Australian Standards, relevant regulatory and licencing requirements in a best practice and cost-effective manner.
  • Effective communication with all stakeholders on job requests, asset status and condition of the hospital as a whole.
  • Maintain a current and relevant understanding of all Australian Standards related to building services, knowledge of National Construction Codes, WA Health Facility Guidelines and LARU requirements. Ensure that this knowledge is transferred to complaint preventative maintenance works for all assets across the site.
  • To support Engineering department with any responsibilities required for maintaining the operational status of the hospital and ensuring availability of equipment with minimum down time
  • Complete management of the Engineering Asset database, MEX, reactive maintenance , preventative maintenance, capital planning, data accuracy and asset auditing and minor works
  • Manage the deployment of in-house trades and maintenance contractors conducting facility’s preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance activities, and shutdowns to ensure this is consistent with the plans and schedules.
  • Perform life cycle costing on assets
  • preparation of maintenance strategies, Job scopes, service agreements.

What you'll need to succeed

You will hold a relevant qualification (e.g. in a building, mechanical or electrical field) or commensurate experience, with a sound knowledge of various trades (e.g. mechanical, plumbing, air conditioning/ refrigeration, steam, carpentry and electrical). Sound understanding of building services, including air conditioning/chiller sand steam and building practices and Australian Standards is essential.


To succeed you will have highly developed communication, leadership, mediation skills and confliction resolution ability, as well as planning and organisation skills, resource management skills including human, financial and physical resources. You will have demonstrated ability to record information, prepare quality written reports such as maintenance programs and have highly developed skills in analysing and resolving complex problems and issues.
