Your new role
As part of a small legal team, the Legal Counsel will support organisational activities to lift capability and drive growth whilst delivering strong levels of governance and risk oversight in a highly dynamic environment. This role has a significant emphasis on privacy and requests for information.
You will give support to the Executive Director, Governance, Legal and Risk to provide high-quality, practical legal advice across a varied range of business and service delivery activities.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Assist in providing practical legal support and advice to the business on a broad range of general commercial law matters in addition to property, employment, marketing and fundraising, and privacy matters.
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and documents, and managing contract management processes.
- Assist the Privacy Officer to effectively manage requests for information (RFI) from external parties.
- Assisting with establishing and implementing systems and processes, including legal template development and the delivery of training to the business on key legal issues.
- Assist in maintaining knowledge management databases where legal advice is stored.
- Ensuring compliance with corporate governance standards and practices.
- Assist with administrative and legal operations functions such as setting up matter files and contract management processes.
- Assist with the administration and maintenance the LLA Group general insurance renewal program and management of insurance claims.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be admitted to practice as a lawyer in NSW with a minimum of 3 years’ post-admission experience in general commercial law, gained in private practice or in-house. Candidates must have experience in privacy law.
You will also possess strong legal drafting and proof-reading skills with practical experience and a high degree of accuracy, initiative and judgment when reviewing corporate documents.
Additionally, you will have excellent organisational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills, with a can-do attitude and an ability to meet deadlines and prioritise competing stakeholder needs.
The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to translate complex legal terminology into clear, straightforward language that non-legal colleagues can easily understand.
