Contract – Lead Full Stack Java Engineer
Your new company
You’ll join a major government organisation driving a large digital modernisation program. The team is evolving legacy platforms into cloud‑native, modern architectures and operates in a flexible, hybrid environment.

Your new role
As a Lead Full Stack Developer, you’ll work across both frontend and backend services to support a significant transformation initiative. You’ll contribute hands‑on code, guide engineering standards, and help shape the rebuild of large‑scale systems using modern frameworks, microservices, and cloud technologies.
What you’ll need to succeed
Backend
  • Strong Java engineering background, ideally with experience in platform upgrades or modernisation work.
  • Solid capability building microservices with Spring Boot.
  • Practical AWS experience across containers, serverless components, and core cloud services.
  • Knowledge of Terraform or other IaC tooling.
  • Comfort with distributed design patterns and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
  • Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases.
Frontend
  • Strong skills in JavaScript/TypeScript and React
  • Experience building component‑driven interfaces and working with design systems.
  • Familiarity with state management tools and API integration patterns.
  • Confident with automated testing and web performance fundamentals.
  • Understanding of accessibility and responsive design best practices.
General
  • Ability to diagnose complex issues and produce clean, maintainable solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
