The Opportunity
A national law firm with an established litigation practice is seeking a lawyer with 2–3 years’ post admission experience to join its expanding Government & Administrative Law team in Canberra.

This role has been created due to strong growth in government work and offers the opportunity to act for a range of Commonwealth Departments and Agencies, primarily in public law and administrative law litigation. While based in Canberra, the role forms part of a broader national practice group, providing exposure to complex, high profile matters and support from experienced practitioners across multiple offices.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting with judicial review proceedings, merits review matters and statutory challenges

• Acting for Commonwealth departments and agencies in public law and administrative law disputes

• Drafting pleadings, submissions, advices and correspondence

• Conducting detailed legal research and statutory interpretation

• Working closely with senior lawyers on complex and sensitive matters

• Collaborating with colleagues nationally within a collegiate, team based environment
  
  About You

• Experience in litigation, public law, administrative law, regulatory, insurance or government related matters

• 2–3 years’ post admission experience practising law in Australia

• Strong drafting, research and analytical skills

• A genuine interest in government and administrative law

• The ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast paced environment

• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach

• Admission in Australia and eligibility to practise in the ACT
