The Opportunity
A national law firm with an established litigation practice is seeking a lawyer with 2–3 years’ post admission experience to join its expanding Government & Administrative Law team in Canberra.
This role has been created due to strong growth in government work and offers the opportunity to act for a range of Commonwealth Departments and Agencies, primarily in public law and administrative law litigation. While based in Canberra, the role forms part of a broader national practice group, providing exposure to complex, high profile matters and support from experienced practitioners across multiple offices.
Key Responsibilities
Assisting with judicial review proceedings, merits review matters and statutory challenges
Acting for Commonwealth departments and agencies in public law and administrative law disputes
Drafting pleadings, submissions, advices and correspondence
Conducting detailed legal research and statutory interpretation
Working closely with senior lawyers on complex and sensitive matters
Collaborating with colleagues nationally within a collegiate, team based environment
About You
Experience in litigation, public law, administrative law, regulatory, insurance or government related matters
2–3 years’ post admission experience practising law in Australia
Strong drafting, research and analytical skills
A genuine interest in government and administrative law
The ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast paced environment
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
Admission in Australia and eligibility to practise in the ACT
