A local south‑eastern council is seeking a Landscape Development Officer to lead the assessment, approval, and monitoring of landscape plans and associated works, with a strong focus on new parkland developments and streetscape planting. About the Role
As Landscape Development Officer, you will assess and provide direction on landscape plans at both masterplan and detailed design levels, ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and planning permit conditions. You will process and evaluate complex landscape planning referrals, provide advice to internal and external stakeholders, and ensure designs incorporate sustainability, accessibility, and lifecycle asset management requirements. The role also involves contributing to policy development, masterplan reviews, and capturing asset data to support renewal and maintenance programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate landscape plans for compliance with legislation, council policies, and permit conditions.
- Provide authoritative advice on complex landscape planning referrals and applications.
- Ensure new designs incorporate sustainability, health promotion, and community access principles.
- Liaise with stakeholders to resolve landscape design and development issues.
- Contribute to the development and review of policies, masterplans, and landscape strategies.
- Supervise and mentor staff, prioritising referrals and monitoring performance.
About You
- Degree in Landscape Architecture or Diploma in Landscape Design (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in landscape planning, compliance, reserve planning, or allied disciplines.
- Strong knowledge of landscape design, asset management, and project management.
- Ability to analyse and interpret the natural and built environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to resolve complex issues.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capability, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
