Junior IT Support

Junior IT Support- Linux | Melbourne – Clayton (near Monash University) | Contract
We are seeking a Junior IT Support professional with Linux exposure to support a large-scale technology environment during a system refresh and audit phase. This is an excellent opportunity for an IT student or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in a complex, real-world environment alongside a senior IT specialist.
The role is ideal for someone who is technically curious, mature in approach, and comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with a laptop refresh program, including replacement of legacy devices
  • Conduct a detailed audit of IT assets, ensuring accurate data capture
  • Document hardware, operating systems, configurations, and usage details
  • Support remediation activities following the audit phase
  • Provide basic Linux-based support (primarily troubleshooting and setup)
  • Work respectfully with highly specialised end users who may be protective of their systems
  • Maintain accurate records and follow established IT processes
About the Environment
You will be supporting a scientific and research-focused user base, where attention to detail, discretion, and professionalism are critical. Users may have unique setups and requirements, so a thoughtful and non-intrusive approach is essential.

Skills & Experience
  • Exposure to Linux (academic, personal, or home lab experience is sufficient)
  • Studying or recently completed a degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Comfortable working independently in a structured environment
  • Mature communication style and professional demeanour
No formal commercial IT experience is required – aptitude, attitude, and willingness to learn are more important than experience.
