About the Opportunity

As a Commissioning Engineer, you will take the lead on all testing and commissioning activities for major electrical infrastructure projects across Australia. You will act as a subject-matter expert on protection, control and commissioning methodologies, working closely with project teams, stakeholders and clients to ensure safe, timely and high‑quality project delivery. This role offers the chance to work on complex new installations, brownfield upgrades, and high‑voltage assets up to 500kV—including substations, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, SCADA, control schemes and more.

Key Responsibilities

Testing & Commissioning

  • Conduct HV testing and commissioning of primary equipment (415V–500kV), including transformers, CBs, CTs, VTs, switchgear and rectifiers.
  • Perform secondary injection relay testing across transmission, distribution, generation and traction environments.
  • Test and integrate SCADA, AC/DC control systems, and complex protection schemes.
  • Apply and modify IED settings using OEM software (Siemens, SEL, GE, ABB, Micom, etc.).
  • Review designs, evaluate constructability and validate protection schemes.
  • Prepare commissioning methodologies, management plans, ITPs and test plans.
  • Produce acceptance documentation and commissioning reports.

Project Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate commissioning teams, contractors and testing resources.
  • Develop commissioning plans, outage strategies and staged implementation schedules.
  • Manage risks related to testing activities, including SWMS and JSEA requirements.
  • Support bids, estimates and technical submissions.

Stakeholder & Technical Support

  • Provide specialist engineering support to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop sequencing plans, schedules and commissioning frameworks.
  • Share knowledge across multidisciplinary project teams and mentor field personnel.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years in testing and commissioning of primary and secondary equipment.
  • Strong understanding of protection & control systems, power systems and substation environments.
  • Proficiency with major test equipment and software such as Omicron, Doble, CMC, CPC100, SCADA platforms.
  • Experience developing commissioning strategies in utility or major infrastructure environments.
  • Exposure to IEC 61850 commissioning (advantageous but not essential).
