Your new role
Highly experienced and respected industry professional to lead our to-be-developed financial asset custody business in Australia. This position of Managing Director is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the international bank’s Australian custody franchise, driving strategic development, enhancing product capabilities, and ensuring operational excellence across all custody-related activities. This role plays a critical part in shaping the firm’s market presence, client experience, and regulatory standing within the Australian financial ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership, guidance, and mentoring to the Custody Operations teams, fostering a high‑performance and client‑focused culture.
- Oversee end‑to‑end custody operations, ensuring seamless execution, effective workflow optimisation, and delivery of service excellence for clients.
- Lead the development and enhancement of custody product offerings, market strategy, and operational frameworks to support business growth and industry competitiveness.
- Ensure robust risk management practices are embedded across the business by safeguarding the bank’s clients and assets, including proactive identification, mitigation, and reporting of operational risks.
- Oversee service provider performance, including vendor management, oversight, and resolution of incidents to maintain high service standards and compliance requirements.
- Partner with internal stakeholders across Technology, Risk, Compliance, Legal to drive change initiatives, system enhancements, and regulatory readiness.
- Maintain strong external relationships with regulators, market infrastructure providers (including ASX CHESS and Austraclear), and other industry participants.
- Uphold the firm’s values, reputation, and commitment to regulatory compliance by exercising sound ethical judgment in all business decisions and operational practices.
What you'll need to succeed
- Prior experience in custody / fund operations / investment operations / securities operations
- Solid understanding of custody operations and related processes
- Strong understanding of Australian regulatory requirements relevant to custody / securities services
- Local market experience in Australia preferred
- Mandarin language skills preferred but not mandatory
- Ideally 15 years of relevant experiences
