Our client in Port Macquarie is recruiting for a GIS Specialist on an initial 3-month contract position.

Your new role

The Geographical Information System (GIS) Specialist is responsible for providing technical support, configuration advice and spatial data services to users and stakeholders of the GIS applications across the business.
The GIS Specialist is also required to monitor and provide incident resolution for the GIS systems to ensure efficient ongoing operation as well as identify opportunities for data and system improvement.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Identify and analyse GIS-related business requirements and translate them into technical requirements, in collaboration with the Senior GIS Specialist, for inclusion in system enhancement projects.

• Participate in the testing of GIS system enhancements and provide support to business users performing User Acceptance Testing (UAT)

• Create and maintain detailed design, technical, system, user and process documentation, ensuring that all documents are managed and stored according to business quality requirements.

• Monitor and review the GIS systems, processes and performance ensuring the availability, integrity, performance and maintainability of the GIS and related interfaces

• Make recommendations to the Senior GIS Specialist for the implementation of potential system configuration, enhancements or hardware

• Provide technical advice, support and incident resolution to system users and stakeholders of the GIS applications within agreed service levels.

• Keep abreast of industry technologies, tools and techniques as well as maintain technical knowledge of Essential Energy’s GIS applications and interfaces.

• Develop and deliver training to business SME’s and system users for new and existing functionality

What you'll need to succeed

- Demonstrated experience in a similar IT role in the Construction, Energy/Electrical or Utilities industry
• Demonstrated experience working with GIS data structures, relational databases, system interfacing and associated system design
• Working knowledge and understanding of business and operational processes supported by the GIS team
• Demonstrated experience translating business requirements into system enhancing technical requirements
• Experience in system troubleshooting, incident management, configuration management, system testing and enhancements and providing application support to end users
