You will join a large and complex public sector organisation with significant governance, reporting, and compliance responsibilities. The finance function provides strategic advice, financial management, and reporting support to operational areas to enable the achievement of organisational and government objectives. Your new role

• Prepare and post month‑end journals, ensuring timely and accurate reconciliations of financial accounts
• Prepare and submit the annual Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) return in line with statutory requirements.
• Prepare and review GST calculations and BAS submissions, and respond to tax‑related queries
• Support year-end processes, including assisting with the preparation of annual financial statements and responding to audit requirements.
• Prepare and analyse financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including budget‑related and statutory reporting
• Manage the debtor ledger, including resolving discrepancies, overseeing debt recovery, and preparing write-offs and doubtful debt provisions.
• Gather, monitor, and analyse financial data to support reporting, compliance, and decision-making
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve reporting issues and support audit and review activities
• Review processes and procedures to ensure compliance with best‑practice financial management standards

What you'll need to succeed

• Membership, or eligibility for membership, of CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants ANZ, or a recognised professional accounting body
• Demonstrated experience in financial accounting, reporting, reconciliations, and tax‑related matters
• Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, relevant public sector financial legislation, and taxation requirements
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
• Ability to build effective working relationships and contribute as a trusted finance specialist
• State Government experience
