Financial Accountant

Temporary Financial Accountant role with a State Government Department, requiring an immediate start

Your new company

Our state Government Department client are seeking support from an experienced Financial Accountant, to join their team for 4 weeks to assist with setting up KPI reporting for Accounting Operations. This role has the potential to be extended past 4 weeks, but will go down to part-time hours.

Your new role

  • Contributes to the development of budget statements and supporting estimate notes.
  • Assists in formulating the Department’s internal budget framework.
  • Supports the preparation and coordination of submissions for recurrent and capital funding.
  • Develops budget strategies aligned with the Department’s strategic and operational plans.
  • Oversees the preparation and monitoring of the business unit’s budget to ensure alignment with financial targets.
  • Assists in compiling executive-level financial reports for departmental leadership.
  • Prepares cost allocation models and supports the costing of performance indicators for financial reporting.
  • Develops and maintains financial models to support service costing and project evaluations.
  • Provides financial analysis and advice to support strategic initiatives and operational planning.
  • Provides financial and strategic support across multiple projects to ensure successful delivery and alignment with departmental objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with project teams, stakeholders, and clients to facilitate project success.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Extensive experience using contemporary financial reporting systems to deliver results in complex environments, including compliance with legislative requirements and Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Proven ability to coordinate project management activities, including preparing reports, managing financials and schedules, and producing project documentation.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with a track record of engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capability in interpreting and applying complex legislation, conducting research, and providing well-informed recommendations.
  • Advanced conceptual, financial, analytical, and evaluation skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex financial challenges.
