3-month temporary contract with a Queensland Statutory Body | Brisbane

This is an opportunity for a Financial Accountant to join a well-established government statutory body responsible for managing and developing a high-profile lifestyle and cultural precinct in Brisbane. The organisation plays a key role in delivering a vibrant destination that balances commercial outcomes with community, cultural, and recreational experiences.

Your new role

As a Financial Accountant, you will provide critical support across financial accounting and accounts payable functions to assist with an existing backlog and ongoing system optimisation. Playing a key role in improving processes and supporting end-of-financial-year activities across multiple entities. You will be responsible for:
  • Assisting with Accounts Payable activities, with a focus on improving processes from purchase order through to invoice payment.
  • Supporting financial accounting tasks, including reconciliations, reporting, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Contributing to system optimisation initiatives following a recent implementation, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assisting in clearing a backlog of transactional and financial work resulting from recent system changes.
  • Providing end-of-financial-year support to Business South Bank, ensuring timely and accurate financial processes.
  • Working independently during an initial period within a related entity, managing priorities effectively.
  • Collaborating with the broader finance team to streamline processes and support ongoing improvements.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles, including month-end processes and reconciliations, and general ledger management
  • Experience preparing financial reports and supporting reporting requirements
  • Exposure to Accounts Payable processes, with an understanding of the purchase order to invoice life cycle
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders
  • Proactive attitude with a willingness to support system and process improvements within the finance function
