Finance Officer

Temporary Finance Officer role with a State Government Department based near Perth CBD

The Finance Officer plays a critical role in supporting the financial operations of the department. This position is responsible for managing key finance functions including procure-to-pay processes, banking, reconciliations, and financial reporting. The role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams to ensure compliance with government financial policies and procedures.

Your new role

  • Coordinate the end-to-end procure-to-pay process, ensuring timely and accurate invoice payments and maintaining financial data in SAP.
  • Assist in reviewing, enhancing, and implementing procurement procedures, including compliance monitoring and staff training.
  • Manage daily banking activities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to financial protocols.
  • Monitor corporate credit card transactions and support reporting and general ledger coding.
  • :Analyse financial transactions and general ledger data to ensure accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders regarding invoicing, payments, and procurement processes, including financial account code allocation.
  • Prepare and analyse financial data to support internal and external audit processes.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and external partners.
  • Manage petty cash processes, including reconciliation and reimbursement.
  • Prepare accounts payable and other finance-related reconciliations as required.
  • Contribute to month-end financial reporting and reconciliation tasks.
  • Participate in the development of business plans, policies, procedures, process documentation, and intranet content.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on financial processes and responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the finance team and departmental objectives.

  • Demonstrated experience in finance or accounting within a complex organisation.
  • Proficiency in SAP or similar financial management systems.
  • Strong understanding of government financial policies and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
