Senior role in construction | $160K+ | Strategic finance, risk, and commercial insight with CFO pathway

Finance & Risk Manager – Townsville | Senior role in the construction sector | $160K+ | Strategic finance, risk, and commercial insight

Your new company

Join a dynamic organisation in the construction and development sector, known for delivering complex projects with precision and pace. This is a senior leadership opportunity within a fast-moving environment where commercial intelligence and strategic thinking are valued above all else.

Your new role

As Finance and Risk Manager, you’ll be the commercial backbone of the business, providing clarity and confidence to decision-makers. This is not a back-office accounting role – it’s a strategic position focused on forecasting, financial modelling, and risk insight.

Reporting directly to the Director and collaborating closely with the CFO, you will:
- Maintain rolling GP, overhead, and cashflow forecasts.
- Build scenario models for wins, losses, delays, and cost changes.
- Strengthen tendering with financial intelligence and margin analysis.
- Identify risk exposure in pricing and delivery, flagging issues early without slowing decisions.
- Support development feasibility and integrate cashflow into overall planning.
- Improve financial reporting structures and governance, paving the way for a future CFO pathway.

To succeed in this role

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and enjoys being part of a dynamic business. You’ll be a calm, structured thinker who brings clarity under pressure, with a strong sense of ownership. Confidence to challenge senior leaders respectfully – backed by data and sound logic – is essential.

You’ll combine commercial acumen with analytical strength, ideally with 7+ years’ experience in commercial finance, project control, or quantity surveying within construction, civil, or infrastructure sectors. You’ll have a proven ability to forecast, model scenarios, and interpret financial impacts, along with a deep understanding of how margins are built, eroded, and protected. Familiarity with BOQs, prelims, and tender processes will set you up for success.

This is an exciting opportunity where your insights and leadership will be instrumental in driving the business forward, not just maintaining the numbers, but shaping decisions and influencing growth. This position is based in Townsville and is open to candidates willing to relocate; however, successful applicants must be available to work onsite in Townsville.

What you'll get in return

- Opportunity to shape financial strategy and risk management in a growing construction business.
- Competitive salary negotiable based on experience, typically in the $160K+ range.
- A senior leadership role with the potential to step into a CFO position.
