Hays is currently inviting expressions of interest from experienced and enthusiastic Business Support Officers seeking opportunities within local government. We work in partnership with councils across Melbourne who regularly require skilled administrative professionals to support a variety of departments. These roles offer the chance to contribute to high-performing, community-focused teams in dynamic and rewarding environments.

Locations: Eastern Suburbs
Hours: Full-Time - Monday to Friday–38 hours per week
Tenure: Temporary assignments up to 3 months

Your new role

  • Deliver high-quality administrative and customer service support across various departments, including planning, infrastructure, and community services
  • Manage shared inboxes, respond to enquiries promptly, and escalate issues when necessary
  • Prepare accurate documentation, reports, and correspondence with strong attention to detail
  • Maintain and update records and databases with a high level of precision
  • Coordinate meetings, including scheduling, preparing agendas, and taking minutes as required
  • Assist with project coordination and provide ad-hoc support to broader teams as needed

What you'll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience working within a local council or government setting is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with internal systems such as TechOne, TRIM, Pathway, GIS, Weave, and CDIS (Child Development Information System)
  • Strong ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently
  • A proactive and adaptable attitude, with a willingness to learn and contribute effectively within a team environment
