This Government Department is working at the forefront of delivering a high level of policies and programs to the public contributing to the agriculture, food and forestry industries. This branch provides professional and responsive support for ministers and high-level executive governance meetings.

Your new role
We are seeking candidates with Secretariat/Program Board experience. You will be joining a small, high-profile team working on a breadth of critical portfolio and government issues that directly benefit the Australian community and industry. Assistant Directors work as senior members of the team, responsible for leading the delivery of high-quality, accurate and consistent analysis and advice in providing secretariat services as required.

The duties of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Leading the preparation of high-quality meeting documents, including agendas, briefings, papers and minute briefings, often in a pressurised environment
  • Maintain professional and constructive relationships with stakeholders
  • Liaising with other policy, regulatory and operational areas in the department and across government to achieve area and agency goals
  • Leading and building the capability of team members to support the duties listed above.

What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you will be a high-performing individual with previous experience in the APS in the same or similar role.

As well as this, the successful candidate will have the following skills and capabilities:
  • Ability to deliver a wide range of high-quality work that is clear, concise, logical, and well-constructed in a time-pressured environment
  • Ability to communicate concisely, both verbally and in writing, with senior management and a wide range of stakeholders in an accurate, timely and professional manner
  • Ability to provide high quality advice, including in collaboration with other areas of the department, on complex areas of policy to the minister and senior executive
  • Ability to be future thinking and provide innovative solutions to complex issues through collaboration with internal and external subject-matter experts
  • Consider and effectively manage competing priorities and strategic directions while achieving team outcomes in line with the department's goals and objectives.
  • The ability to lead, mentor and develop others whilst building an effective, high-functioning team.

    You must be an Australian citizen and will possess or be willing to go through the process to obtain and maintain a (Baseline, NV1 or NV2) personnel security clearance.
