Hays has partnered with a Queensland-based construction and restoration business that specialises in insurance-driven residential and commercial projects, including post-event restorations, education facilities, and general construction works. With a strong reputation for professionalism, accuracy, and service, they're continuing to grow their estimating capability and are now seeking an experienced Desktop Estimator to join the team.

Your new role

As a Desktop Estimator, you’ll play a critical role in the insurance claims process by preparing accurate, timely, and compliant repair estimates for both residential and commercial projects—all from a desk-based environment.

• Prepare detailed desktop estimates for residential and commercial insurance building claims

• Scope repair works using photos, reports, plans, and insurer documentation without site attendance

• Price works in line with insurer schedules of rates, policy requirements, and construction standards

• Submit, review, and revise estimates through approvals, variations, and claim negotiations

• Liaise professionally with insurers, loss adjusters, assessors, and internal delivery teams

• Ensure all estimates are accurate, compliant, audit-ready, and delivered within required timeframes
  
  

What you'll need to succeed

• Previous experience as a Desktop Estimator in insurance building (essential)

• Strong understanding of residential and commercial construction methods

• Experience with estimating software such as Xactimate, Buildxact, CostX, or similar

• High attention to detail with excellent written communication skills

• Ability to manage multiple claims and deadlines simultaneously

• Professional, organised, and solutions-focused approach
