Data Analyst (Reporting)

A higher education client is looking for a Data Analyst

Your new role

Reporting to the SMST Reporting Lead and embedded within cross‑functional Capability Squads, this role is responsible for delivering high‑quality insights, operational reporting, and data solutions across a complex transformation program.
The role works hands‑on across Ellucian Insights, Databricks (Lakehouse / Delta Lake / Spark) and Power BI, supporting everything from data ingestion and modelling through to UAT, releases, and stakeholder engagement. As Insights functions as both a data warehouse and a reporting platform, strong SQL capability and comfort working with data pipelines is essential.
This is a fast‑paced, ambiguous environment undergoing continuous change. The successful candidate will be proactive, adaptable, and confident when working closely with BAs, Product Owners, SMEs, and technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines, transformations, and analytical workflows using SQL, Python, and Databricks within a Lakehouse (Delta Lake/Spark) architecture.
  • Develop and optimise data models and operational reports in Ellucian Insights, aligned to Banner data structures and best‑practice reporting standards.
  • Investigate complex data issues and independently prototype, test, and implement reporting and analytical solutions.
  • Perform data profiling, validation, and remediation to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Support UAT and release activities, including defect triage and resolution.
  • Collaborate closely with Capability Squads (Functional BAs, Product Owners, SMEs) to clarify requirements, understand workflows, and co‑design scalable data solutions.
  • Facilitate technical walkthroughs and working sessions to validate data definitions and iterate on designs.
  • Produce and maintain high‑quality documentation including Confluence/Jira artefacts, ERDs, data lineage diagrams, and runbooks.
  • Contribute to shared codebases using version control (Git) and peer review practices.

What you'll need to succeed

Required Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Data, Analytics, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong SQL expertise, including complex query development and performance optimisation.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining data models, curated datasets, and analytical workflows.
  • Hands‑on experience with Databricks (Delta Lake / Spark).
  • Experience developing Power BI reports and dashboards aligned to best‑practice design standards.
  • Solid understanding of data quality and data governance, including PII and sensitive data handling.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable performing BA‑style activities when required (requirements clarification, workflow analysis).
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to team standards and continuous improvement.
Desirable Experience

  • 5+ years experience in data, analytics, or reporting roles.
  • Experience working on large‑scale transformation programs.
  • Higher Education sector experience, particularly with Ellucian Banner / Insights.
