Cyber Security Advisor

Steer critical security workstreams across DISP, ATO, and enterprise cyber uplift

Your new company

We’re partnering with a large, complex organisation delivering a significant capability uplift for the Australian Defence ecosystem. As part of this multi-year program, we’re seeking an experienced Cyber Security Advisor (NV1-cleared) who can provide strategic guidance, assurance, and coordination across a broad portfolio of ICT and Defence-integrated systems.
This is a unique opportunity to be the “glue” between internal IT teams, business stakeholders, and external delivery partners working on a high-profile Defence project. You’ll play a critical advisory role ensuring systems, processes, and decisions align with Defence security expectations and uplift the overall cyber posture of the organisation.

Your new role

As the Cyber Security Advisor, you will act as the key liaison between business stakeholders, central IT, and external cyber partners. You will provide strategic oversight, assurance, and leadership across several security workstreams.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing the organisation for an upcoming DISP audit, ensuring multiple systems meet Essential Eight Maturity Level 2.
  • Leading the preparation and submission of Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation for a major system integration.
  • Overseeing cybersecurity risks across the broader business unit, ensuring systems are secure, compliant, and aligned with Defence expectations.
  • Working closely with central IT to advocate for business needs and manage group‑level risks and issues impacting the program.
  • Acting as the “glue” between internal teams and external providers to ensure cohesive cyber outcomes across the project.
This is a strategic, advisory‑focused role with high visibility and the opportunity to shape the organisation’s Defence‑ready cyber posture.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful, you will have:
  • NV1 security clearance (Baseline considered for exceptional candidates)
  • Strong understanding of Defence cybersecurity frameworks, requirements, and governance expectations
  • Demonstrated experience with DISP, Essential Eight, and system hardening
  • Experience preparing or supporting ATO/IRAP artefacts for Defence‑connected systems
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to coordinate across IT, business, and external partners
  • A strategic and solutions‑focused mindset, capable of overseeing cyber risk across a diverse portfolio

What you'll get in return

  • Long term 9–12 month initial contract with strong potential for extension
  • Opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant Defence‑aligned program
  • Flexible location across Australia, with preference for candidates based in Canberra
  • Work in an environment where your cyber expertise and advisory capability will directly influence program success
  • Competitive daily rate
