In your new role in this leadership position,

  • You will take charge of statutory planning functions, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, including the Planning and Environment Act 1987. Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Leading and mentoring a dynamic team of planners to achieve organisational goals.
  • Overseeing the assessment of major, complex, and sensitive planning applications.
  • Developing policies, procedures, and strategies to enhance statutory planning services.
  • Representing the council at planning forums, VCAT hearings, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Building strong connections between statutory implementation and policy development, fostering alignment across departments. What you'll need to succeed:
  • Extensive experience in statutory planning, particularly in interpreting and applying the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and related regulations.
  • Proven leadership abilities to guide and inspire a team, ensuring clarity of roles and high performance.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the capacity to make informed decisions in complex scenarios.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of managing relationships with government bodies, referral authorities, and community groups.
