Your new role
The Community Services Worker provides and facilitates a diverse range of recreational and social support services for the local council community that promote health, wellbeing, social connection and resilience. This contributes to the Council's vision for a socially just and inclusive city.
Provide safe, inclusive and engaging community centres where people are welcomed, connected and supported.
• Plan, implement and review community centre programs, activities and events that meet the needs of local communities and that contribute to the City’s strategic objectives.
• Apply community development principles and practice in engaging with community and planning services.
• Establish and maintain a network of stakeholders and service providers (both internal and external) to assist with program and event delivery, information and referral pathways, and advocacy.
• Provide brief interventions of support to individuals to address immediate or emerging needs and provide information and/or referrals to ensure people know how and where to access support from specialist agencies if required.
• Support the Area Manager to ensure the safe and efficient operations of community centres to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
• Maintain communication systems to ensure community members can receive information that is relevant, timely and accessible to them.
What you'll need to succeed
Degree in Social Sciences or other relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent experience in a related field.
• Experience and demonstrated ability to plan, deliver and implement a variety of community programs and services to people from diverse backgrounds with differing needs to meet strategic objectives.
• Current first aid certificate or willingness to undertake relevant training.
• Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
• Ability to speak fluent Cantonese and/or Mandarin, with a competent level of reading and writing in Chinese
Minimum of 3 days availability per week, Monday to Friday. However, some weekend work may be required.
