Communications Manager

3-month temporary Communications Manager opportunity within state government.

Our client is looking for an experienced Communications Manager to join their team on a 3-month temporary contract with the possibility of extension.

Your new role

  • Oversees all aspects of corporate communications and engagement, including internal and external messaging, media relations, public relations, social media, website content, and issues management.

  • Manages corporate reputation and communication-related risks, providing strategic advice and reporting to support organisational objectives.

  • Leads complex communication projects such as brand development, market research, public relations events, and the production of high-quality publications.

  • Engages with key stakeholders, including government representatives, and provides strategic oversight of sponsorships, grants, and Aboriginal engagement initiatives.

  • Promotes a positive organisational culture and brand identity through effective communication strategies aligned with corporate values and priorities.

  • Supervises and supports staff across multiple locations, fostering collaboration, providing training, and ensuring performance management and workplace safety.

  • Manages budgets and expenditure for the communications branch, ensuring financial activities align with organisational reporting and compliance standards.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven ability to lead and manage a communications function aligned with organisational and government priorities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience providing strategic advice on complex and sensitive communication issues.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including mentoring, coaching, and supporting staff to achieve high-quality outcomes.

  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a track record of building strategic relationships and fostering a positive organisational culture.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in a senior communications role.
