Communications Manager

Communications Manager, 6-Month contract
I am seeking a hands‑on and highly capable Communications Manager to support delivery of clear, consistent, and engaging communications during a period of substantial organisational change at a univeristy here in Sydney. This is a great opportunity for a communications professional with strong project/change communications experience who thrives in complex environments with evolving scope.

Role Overview
You will play a key role in crafting, coordinating, and delivering communications that support staff understanding, engagement, and confidence throughout the change. You will work closely with change managers, faculty stakeholders, and the broader marketing and communications function. This role is tactical and delivery-focused, requiring someone who can confidently manage competing priorities and maintain high standards while the program continues to evolve.

Key Responsibilities:

Communication Strategy & Planning
1. Support the development and implementation of communication strategies and plans for the university’s sustainability and change initiatives.
2. Provide timely and practical communication advice to internal partners to support change objectives.
3. Ensure all communications align with overarching narratives, key messages, and the university’s strategic transformation direction.
4. Develop and maintain clear, consistent messaging for priority initiatives and key milestones.
5. Liaise with the central Marketing & Communications team
6. Maintain consistency of messaging across all channels and communication touchpoints.

Content Creation & Delivery

1. Develop and publish high-quality communication materials including emails, newsletters, presentations, and digital content.
2. Ensure all materials reflect the university’s voice, style, and branding.
3. Maintain and update program content on SharePoint, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
4. Proactively identify content opportunities to improve staff awareness and understanding of program objectives and progress.
5. Coordinate communication activities to ensure timely, coherent delivery across channels.

Stakeholder Coordination & Engagement

1. Build strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders across faculties and professional units.
2. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate, consistent information flows.
3. Support change and communications colleagues in delivering transparent and collaborative change communications.
4. Capture and escalate staff feedback to inform future communication planning.

Monitoring & Evaluation

1. Monitor communication activities and assess effectiveness against agreed objectives.
2. Track engagement metrics and use insights to refine communication approaches.
3. Prepare clear, concise reports on communication performance for program and leadership audiences.

Teamwork & Culture

- Work collaboratively across cross-functional teams to support shared objectives.
- Provide guidance and informal mentoring to colleagues when needed.
- Contribute positively to a supportive, high-performing team culture.

About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
1. Experience in project or change communications, ideally within large, complex environments.
2. The ability to work in fast-paced, evolving contexts with shifting scopes.
3. Strong relationship-building skills
4. Hands-on experience managing content in SharePoint (highly desirable).
5. Background in the university sector would be highly desirable
6. A proactive, collaborative, and delivery-focused approach.

Role Details
Contract: 6 months, with potential extension
Rate: $800–$850 per day + super
Location: Sydney (Hybrid – 3 days in office)
No direct reports
Start: ASAP
