Hays have partnered with the Mount Isa Water Board (MIWB) to recruit the Commercial Finance Manager. Uniquely located in the heart of the North-West Minerals Province, on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon people, MIWB is a Water Authority, responsible for the supply of quality bulk water to industrial customers and the Mount Isa City Council, and the delivery of high-voltage electricity services.

The Commercial Finance Manager is an exciting new senior leadership position for the right person looking for an outback adventure. The role demands a demonstrated history of success and expertise in financial accounting, management accounting and commercial management. This role is pivotal to enhancing MIWB's economic performance and financial results for the benefit of its customers and the community.

Your new role

Reporting into the General Manager (Corporate & Governance), you will play a critical role in developing an organisational culture of cost controllership and financial literacy, and implementing new commercial solutions (such as strategies to implement least-cost regional solutions) and autonomously leading all aspects of the Finance Function (including economic modelling and forecasting). With extensive experience in commercial analysis, negotiations, and management, you will provide strategic advice to stakeholders including the Executive Leadership Team and the Board of Directors.

Your responsibilities will include the following (but not limited to):
  • Managing the month-end process ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Cultivating key stakeholder relationships to ensure alignment between commercial performance and the operational plan.
  • Leading asset accounting and proactive investment into organisational assets to ensure best level service.
  • Planning, coordinating, and driving the annual budgeting and forecasting monthly reviews and commentary.
  • Leading the annual financial reporting process including preparation of financial statements.
  • Preparing, managing, and monitoring of the organisation’s customer pricing practices.
  • Adhoc commercial duties as required

As a critical leadership role within the organisation, you will be required to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders. The right candidate will have access to coaching and mentoring, professional development, professional memberships, and relieving at higher duties.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful for this position you will have tertiary accounting/ commerce qualifications and hold a current CA/ CPA membership.

You will have extensive experience in management accounting and stakeholder management, with the ability to make and be accountable for strategic decisions. Your ability to demonstrate strong organisational leadership and management skills, especially advocating and influencing across different divisions and areas, will be key to your success in this application.

Demonstrated experience in infrastructure or utilities is essential, as is the development of complex financial and economic models.

As the key commercial and financial interface to this organisation’s stakeholders, you will need to demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication and negotiation skills and be comfortable representing the organisation with senior institutional and government stakeholders.

  • Full-time, Monday – Friday
